Description
A showcase of plays in development by Thalia Arts.
An evening of heart-warming, hilarious and refreshing writing exploring queer characters in historical settings. Through four extracts we will give the audience a taste of projects we are working hard to bring to the stage. This will be a celebration of LGBTQIA+ friendship, extraordinary lives and everyday queerness, as well as a showcase of exciting emerging writers and vibrant performers.
The plays:
EMINENT CHARLESTONIANS
By Laura May Price
An investigation of platonic love and unconventional relationship styles through the lives of members of The Bloomsbury Group from 1906 - 1932.
THE HOUSE BEAUTIFUL
By Jordana Belaiche
Set in the Decadent headquarters of 78 Trilby Place, The House Beautiful is a fictional, farcical homage to the decade of dreams and dreamers alike.
EMMA
By Laura May Price, after Jane Austen
A fresh, queer, more anxious adaptation of Jane Austen’s most down-to-earth comedy.
TRIUMPH OF PAN
By Jordana Belaiche
An exploration of addiction, obsession and the power of choice over the life events of poet Victor Neuburg
Creative team:
Writers: Jordana Belaiche, Laura May Price
Developed by/directed by: Beth Wilson
The event is aiming to boost visibility for both the four projects in the programme and the creatives involved. Any funds raised from the event will go towards giving these plays a future life in a professional, full-length iteration.
Running time: 80 minutes plus a 20 minute interval
